Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The church was built in 1998 in memory of the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in the 19th century in the center of Tiraspol and destroyed by the Soviet authorities in the 1930s. It became the first church in the city after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The place for it was determined back in Soviet times, in 1989, back then construction works began. The project was designed by architect A.N. Cher- dantsev. Almost all enterprises and organizations of the city helped to construct the church. In 1993, the lower church was consecrated, and five years later – the upper one.

For several years, the Church of the Intercession, in fact, was the main church of the Pridnestrovian capital and the entire Dubossary Vicariate. At that time, the сhurch administration was also located there until the construction of an Orthodox center, including the building of the diocesan administration, was completed in the city.

The iconostasis of the church was painted by Tver artists in the old Russian style.

The church has a library, a Sunday school for children and the newspaper “Pokrovskii listok”.
