Memorial to the Victims of Fascism

The memorial is located on the site of a large burial place of civilians – victims of the World War II. German-Romanian invaders in the territory of the MSSR.

According to various estimates, about 18.5 thousand civilians from Chisinau, Tiraspol, Rybnitsa, Grigoriopol, Dubossary, Balta, Krasnye Okon and nearby villages where buried here.

In 1949, a typical Soviet monument was created at the site of the execution; in the 1950s, a memorial complex was built here. The initial project of the memorial complex was developed by the famous architect – Semyon Shoikhet from Dubossary.

In 2017, the monument “Requiem” was erected on the territory of the memorial. The sculpture is a silhouette of a praying Jew, covered with a tales – a scarf for performing a prayer ceremony. The pedestal bears the inscription “For what?” in Russian, English and Yiddish.
