Monastery of St. John the Baptist (Kalagur area)

On December 31, 2003 the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church blessed the opening of a monastery in the name of the Prophet and Forerunner John the Baptist in the Kalagur area of the Rybnitsa district of Pridnestrovie.

It was decided to place the monastery at the complex of buildings of the former pioneer camp “Era”. It is located near the village of Stroenti, in one of the most picturesque places of Pridnestrovie, in the forest, on the hill above the Dniester river.

In summer 2010, the construction of the Cathedral Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist began on the territory of the monastery, but the construction had to be stopped. In May 2016 appeared the idea to erect a wooden church in honor of Sophia the Wisdom of God. The church became the only example of wooden church architecture in Pridnestrovie. The construction of the temple began on August 2, 2016. The church has an oak iconostasis and bells on the bell tower.

In 2012, with the blessing of His Eminence Bishop Savva, a chapel was built on the territory of the monastery. One of the monastery’s most revered shrines – the miraculous icon of the Mother of God “Seeking of the Lost” is placed there.
