Sculpture composition “Ruslan, capturing Chernomor”

Description
Sculpture composition “Ruslan, capturing Chernomor”
The fountain, lined with marble tiles, appeared in the central square of Dnestrovsk after the celebration of the 18th anniversary of the town, in 1979. It was developed by the engineers of the design bureau of Moldova HPP. Ten years later, the chairman of the Dnestrovsk Council, G.P. Chior, proposed to the sculptor from Odessa S.A. Fomin to make a sculpture with a fairy tale plot to beautify the square. Fomin focused on the classic fairy tale by Alexander Pushkin “Ruslan and Lyudmila” and presented a sketch of the composition “Ruslan, capturing Chernomor”. The sculptor chose the fountain as the place for the monument installation. According to the author’s idea, Chernomor’s beard was washed with water, which “washed away” the dark thoughts of the villain.
