On August 9, 1967 white sails of yachts appeared on the mirror-like surface of the Kuchurhan estuary. They became the first sailing ships in the MSSR. Thanks to enthusiasts, sailing in the town developed rapidly, and from the mid-1970s, yachtsmen of Dnestrovsk regularly participated in all Union regattas. Young sportsmen and women from Dnestrovsk became champions and prize-winners of the USSR, and adult yachtsmen and women did not lag behind. In 1985 the crew of the cruising yacht “Elektra”, consisting of Moldovan HPP workers, won the Black Sea Cup.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union the yacht club temporarily ceased to exist. The revival of sailing began in 2010, and the club reopened a year later. Today it has at least 40 yachts of various classes. Like 50 years ago, the estuary hosts regattas dedicated to various festive dates.
